The cottage, adjacent to the owner’s home, is a fine example of a cruck-framed Yorkshire longhouse which was traditionally built to accommodate both family and cattle under one roof. It is featured alongside similar longhouses in Ryedale, in a book entitled ‘Houses of the North York Moors’ by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments.
